How much data does your trip really need?
Find a comfortable starting point for your next adventure.
Start with the essentials.
- Start with your current phone’s data usage. Your cellular settings show how much data your favorite apps use.
- Maps, messaging, and occasional browsing usually use less data than video streaming, video calls, and hotspot work.
- Consider a smaller plan for light use with regular Wi-Fi, or more data if you upload photos and navigate all day. These are planning guidelines, not guaranteed usage amounts.
- Download maps, music, and entertainment on Wi-Fi before leaving. Turn off automatic photo backup over cellular.
- Check whether your plan supports top-ups. For unlimited plans, read fair-use, speed, and hotspot restrictions before buying.
Every device and provider is a little different. Use this guide as a starting point and follow the instructions for your specific phone and plan.
