Travelling to 科威特: what to know before you go

Kuwait is a small Gulf state at the head of the Persian Gulf, centred on a modern capital with a waterfront corniche, large cultural centres and a traditional souq. It is not a mass-tourism destination, but it suits business travellers, stopover visitors and anyone interested in Gulf heritage, food and contemporary architecture.

Where to go

• Kuwait Towers. The city's landmark, three slender towers on the seafront decorated with blue and green spheres.
• Souq Al-Mubarakiya. One of the oldest markets in Kuwait, a maze of covered lanes selling spices, dates, perfumes, textiles and gold, with small restaurants serving grilled meats and traditional dishes.
• Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre. A huge museum complex with galleries on natural history, science, space, Islamic civilisation and Arabian heritage, designed to appeal to families as well as specialists.
• Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre. A striking modern building with geometric patterned facades, home to Kuwait's opera house and concert halls, set in landscaped grounds near the Gulf.

Best time to visit

November to March is the most comfortable time to visit, with mild days and cool evenings; this is also the season when desert camping is popular. April and October are warm, while from May to September the heat is intense and life moves indoors to air-conditioned malls and buildings.

Mobile coverage is excellent across Kuwait City and its suburbs, with 4G and 5G widely available. Coverage is generally good along main roads too, but can be weaker in remote desert areas and offshore. Wi-Fi is common in hotels, malls and cafés. Install an eSIM before you fly and switch it on when you land.
